PM hands over television set to Mackenzie Sports Club

Georgetown GINA, May 8, 2007

The Mackenzie Sports Club, Linden has received a television set from Prime Minister Samuel Hinds in fulfillment of a promise he made in December 2006. The television set, replaced the previous one which was stolen.   
            The club’s representatives expressed their appreciation to Prime Minister Hinds, assuring him they will protect and care the equipment.

Prime Minster Hinds noted that the club has been known to him since the 1970s as he gave years of service, particularly in the bauxite industry in the town.
He also noted that the gesture is part of Government’s contribution to the maintenance and development of the club. He disclosed that Government intends to ensure that the facility continues to serve as a membership club and he encouraged the representatives to continue working towards its maintenance and expansion. 
The presentation ceremony was made minutes after Prime Minister Hinds formally handed over the operations of the bauxite industry to BOSAI, the new investor from China on May 6.
            The Mackenzie Sports Club ground is a popular location in Linden, where various sports and other public events, including the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament are held.
